I never use the hibernate or suspend features, so I don't have any experience or recommendations on that matter. Sorry that I can't help out there Swinkedy.

I don't mind the mouse anymore. I did play around with the settings, but I never got it quite right. I guess I just got used to it.

The volume is much better now. I think recent developments with the core audio systems has improved this situation.

Thanks for the feedback Swinkedy.

Hi gaarai,

I just bought a Dell Studio 17 too and I put Ubuntu Jaunty on it right away. I've been using Ubuntu for about 4 years and I can't live without it so far.

I'm experiencing some troubles with getting everything to work on my new laptop and it's nice to read someone writing about how he solved his problems.

In the first place I haven't read anything in your posts related to the hibernate/suspend features: haven't you got any problem with them? I just couldn't either hibernate or suspend with the default kernel and I'm now running a patched version of it which I found on tuxonice.net. This one allows me to both hibernate and suspend in a really fine way, but I suspect (I'm not sure it depends on the kernel) that since I've been using this kernel the video card isn't working well anymore. I've had the same issues as the ones you described, but I got something worse: after some time I'd been working on the laptop the screen became flicker and I couldn't do anything but reboot with the power button (Ctrl-Alt-Backspace did nothing)... How about you?

For the mouse acceleration, have you tried to adjust the parameters in System > Preferences > Mouse ?

For the volume issue, try this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=7505805&postcount=8 . It worked for me ;)
