Well, these are command line tools which work nicely for those with a good memory.

My ideal tools are gnome-do and synapse, which have integrated search and had no trouble finding the xorg.conf file for me; however they didn't manage to emulate the 'which' or 'whereis' commands which I'm sure to forget on the rare occasion I might need them :-s

Thanks for the heads up on that jet. Unfortunately, it was WordPress automatically creating "smart" quotes.

I went back through the post and put pre tags around the code blocks with single quotes in them. That fixed the issue.

I'll keep a closer eye on that from now on.

hmm, maybe, that is not your fault. Maybe, that this web interface corrupts your article. I wrote "zero x two seven" in my previous comment, but the web interface corrupts the comment putting some horrible character instead of 'x'.
I've use some (normal) apostrophe in this comment and I'm curious what character will be put instead of those apostrophes.

hi,
nice article, but don't use strange characters instead of single quotation mark (ascii code 0x27) in examples.
