Some Great AMVs from 2011

by Chris Jean
January 10th, 2012

In celebration of my newly-operational Minitube, I thought I would share some great AMVs from 2011 that I found thanks to Minitube.

Unfortunately, one of my favorite AMVs in a long time is no longer on Youtube. You can find it here on AnimeMusicVideos.org. It’s responsible for getting me into Puella Magi Madoka Magica. You should definitely check it out.

This next one probably can only be viewed on Youtube proper. It uses video from ef – A Tale of Memories, a show that I’ve been meaning to watch. This video has definitely pushed it higher on my list.

Fixed the Contact Form… Again

by Chris Jean
September 17th, 2009

I just found out that yet again, my contact form failed. I’m using the cforms II plugin, and it seems to fail all too often. I wonder if I should either 1) code up my own solution or 2) use something else.

I think my primary problem is that they release patches all the time and the patches are not easy to install since they are not on the WordPress.org Plugin Repository.

Here’s a hint to the guys at delicious:days: add your code to the plugin repository so that it is as easy to update as most of the other plugins. It’s already a open-source, GPL plugin. I don’t understand why it hasn’t been there for a long time by now.

So, if you sent me a contact message and I haven’t replied to you, I probably never got one. I’m sorry for that.

Vote for Cali Lewis, Please :)

by Chris Jean
March 5th, 2009

I have a favor to ask of all my readers today. Cali Lewis of geekbrief.tv is in a contest to win “the Best Job in the World.”

This the title of this job is The Caretaker of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef. The person selected to this position will travel the islands of the Great Barrier Reef for six months. During this time, they will make video blog entries talking about the activity on the islands.

I’ve had the opportunity to meet Cali before. She’s really a lot of fun and is a big supporter of Linux. Please give her your support each day by casting your vote.

In case you don’t know Cali, here is her video entry.

Updates Will Start Again Tomorrow

by Chris Jean
March 2nd, 2009

I’m sorry for the lack of updates over the weekend. I spent the entire weekend working on a large project and didn’t really have time for anything else. I promise to have some good stuff for you tomorrow.

For now, you might want to check out some information about the upcoming Ubuntu release: 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope.

  • Get alpha 5. Note that this is an alpha build and should only be used for testing rather than using as your main system.
  • Official introduction to Jaunty Jackalope
  • 9.04 release schedule
  • List of basic features

Did you ever wonder how Ubuntu’s release schedules work? There are always two releases a year: .04 and .10. The second part of the version string simply refers to which month it was released in, which is always either April or October. So now you won’t have to wonder how long you have to wait for the next Ubuntu release.

Audio Regression in Ubuntu 8.10 on Studio 17

by Chris Jean
February 16th, 2009

As I’ve blogged about before, the latest kernel and sound drivers made proper use of my headphone jacks on my Dell Studio 17 laptop while running Ubuntu 8.10, Intrepid Ibex.

Unfortunately, something has changed. As of this morning, only my center headphone jack functions properly. I’ve played around with many settings in the Volume Control, but I have yet to be able to re-enable the front headphone jack.

This post is just a quick notice to let any fellow Studio 17 + Ubuntu users know that I too am experiencing the problem. As soon as I find a solution, I’ll post it.

2009-02-24 Update

I just noticed that the problem has gone away. I hadn’t checked my jacks for the past few days, so I’m not sure when the problem went away.

FYI: I had a typo in my post where I put “rear headphone jack” rather than “front headphone jack”. I fixed the error.
