After working on a new theme off and on for over a month, I’ve finally settled on a look and decided to update the site.
My old theme was a slight modification of the fSpring theme by Fredrik Fahlstad. I still think that it’s a very nice design, but I decided that it was time for a change.
Since I work for iThemes and have poured so much effort over the last few months into our themes, it seemed the best choice to pick one of our themes as the basis for my new theme design. I ended up choosing Flexx Canvas since I thought that it matched the look I wanted the best.
The most noticable change that I’ve done is the addition of the sliding panel category selectors at the top. I built this as a customization to the Featured Images code that is part of the Flexx themes. However, rather than using the CrossSlide jQuery plugin, I used the slidingPanels plugin by Brian Cherne. I think I will probably change some of the images in not too long, but overall, I’m very happy with the effect.
